We're delighted to showcase the Airedale Swing Bridge, the largest manually operated steel swing bridge in the UK. This impressive structure provides essential access to a newly developed residential area on the outskirts of Leeds.

Key Project Facts:

  • Total Length: Approx. 15 m (49 ft)
  • Width: Approx. 5 m (16 ft)
  • Materials: S355 and S275 steel cross-sections
  • Design: Rectangular tubular pylons supported by guyed tension members (round steel sections)
  • Operation: Manually rotated mechanism (90° rotation)
  • Ship Passage Width: Approx. 5.5 m (18 ft)

Using RFEM, Matrix engineers comprehensively analyzed bridge conditions for both "closed" and "open" states. The analysis considered various vehicle load scenarios and potential ship impacts, ensuring optimal safety and structural performance.
