RFEM 6 | Determination of the Natural Frequency

Hello,

As part of a university project, I need to perform a modal analysis or determine the natural frequency of a pedestrian bridge. I proceeded as follows in RFEM 6: first, I created individual load cases for my masses, i.e., one load case for the self-weight of the structure, one for the self-weight of the roadway slab, and one for the self-weight of the railing. Then I created a load combination with a factor of 1.0 (GZG) to consider the loads in a load combination. After that, I created another load case named "Natural Frequency Analysis" and activated the corresponding add-on for modal analysis, as well as selected the above-mentioned load case in the tab "Take masses only from load case/load combination."

Since this is my first time using the program, I am now a bit uncertain whether the loads have indeed been considered as masses or if there are still further settings to be made. I know that in RFEM 5 there was a clickable field where you could define loads as masses, but unfortunately, I cannot find a similar field at all in RFEM 6.

I have attached a few screenshots. Hopefully, this will make it more understandable.

I hope someone can help me with this.

Best regards.

Hi FabianS,

You have basically implemented the procedure perfectly.
In the modal analysis in RFEM 6, all loads and masses in the load case/load combination selected under "Take masses only from load case/load combination" are also used as masses in the modal analysis.

Compared to RFEM 5, this was simply made much easier through integration into the main program.

You can also very well check this in the graphic after the calculation. There you can display the masses at the mesh points:
