Exploring Hempcrete as a Sustainable Material in Commercial Building

Hi everyone,

I am currently supervising a master's student who is researching hempcrete as a sustainable building material, with a particular focus on its applicability in commercial buildings. We are interested in exploring both the environmental performance and structural feasibility of hempcrete in larger-scale applications, beyond its more common use in residential or low-rise projects.

If anyone in the community has experience with:

  • Modelling hempcrete in Dlubal software (e.g., RFEM),
  • Structural or hygrothermal analysis of natural building materials,
  • Case studies or pilot projects involving hempcrete in commercial settings,

We would be grateful for your insights or pointers to relevant resources.

Hello fl917567,

welcome to our community. We are delighted that you are here.:waving_hand:

Hempcrete sounds like an interesting topic. I am currently considering how this could be represented as a material model in RFEM.

How exactly does hempcrete work? Are the hemp fibers only added to the concrete as a filler to create a type of lightweight concrete?

Or is the hemp used to provide a certain structural effect?
