Modelling steel sections inside concrete sections

Hello everyone.

I´m trying to model a thin-walled C section that will be placed inside a concrete section (see image bellow), but I cant find a way to do it.

When I try to calculate the section using RSECTION, it says the sections are overlaping and stops the calculation.

Is it possible to model this section? If it is, how do I do it?

Hi PedroSoares,

Yes, such cross-sections can be modeled in RSECTION.

Please first follow these steps:

  1. Activate Finite Element Analysis
Make sure that Finite Element Analysis is selected in the Basic Data.

  2. Avoid Overlapping
Ensure that the steel profile does not overlap the concrete cross-section. To guarantee this, you need to create an opening in the concrete cross-section.
The boundary lines of this opening correspond to the boundary lines of the steel cross-section.

If the error message still appears afterward, please send us your model so that we can take a closer look. :face_with_monocle:

Additional Note:
Recently, there is a new cross-section category in RFEM 6. Your exact cross-section is not yet included, but it might be worth taking a look. :magnifying_glass_tilted_left:

Hello @niklas.wanke .

First, I want to thank you for the help and information you already gave.

Now, I´ve tried to apply the method you explained, but I still can´t calculate the section.

I will send you the model for evaluation.

Could you explain what I´ve done wrong?

Best regards,
