Stacked Bolted Connection – Plausibility Check

Hello,

I am trying to simulate a stacked beam connection, but RFEM is telling me the joint is not plausible in the design check, even though it appears to be fine geometrically. I am not sure what is driving that error. I have attached the RFEM file to this post for reference.

My goal is to generate a stress map of the joint to better understand force transfer and stress concentrations. Any advice or direction on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello @frogoil :waving_hand:,

When you open the design check details (by double-clicking on the error message), you will find more information about the issue. In this case, there appears to be a meshing error in the submodel. This is most commonly caused by an unfavorable orientation of the connected members.

Please take a look at members 78 and 79. The angle between them is 90.21°, which can lead to issues with the submodel generation or meshing.

To resolve this, try setting the x-coordinate of node 120 to 10,000 m, as is the case for node 118. This adjustment should resolve the meshing issue and allow it to work as intended.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to ask!

Best regards,
Fabian
