Steel Design does not work for rectangular plates if Z-axis is major

A colleague reported the following issue in RFEM 6.

When using rectangular plate / flat bar sections, the Steel Design module runs only if the Z-axis is defined as the minor axis.
If Z is the major axis, Steel Design stops with the error:

“Check of lateral-torsional buckling is not available because z-axis is major”

This happens purely because of the section axis definition.
The geometry itself is valid, but Steel Design does not run unless the section is defined with Z as minor.

There is no warning during section definition, the error appears only when running Steel Design.

Hi pavel,

The situation is the same as in RFEM 5.
The Iy moment of inertia must correspond to the strong axis. :light_bulb:

Please make sure that:

  • the member orientation is defined correctly, and

  • the local axis system matches the intended strong/weak axis assignment.
