Steel joint does not allow me to select the two reference members

The steel joint doesn't allow me to select two reference members (member 1 and 2) only one of them is allowed to select.

I believe that's the reason these plausibility errors. Further, I can see that one plate didn't weld properly to the beam.

And I can see the added joint is not graphically visible in the main view (after I add it), it's invisible, should I tick any check boxes for it to be visible?

How do I fix this?

Hi, thanks for that question!
The component only allows one reference member because different references could cause problems if they are not aligned with each other. For those cases, there is the option of classifying two members as "continuous" in the member tab:

This will most likely solve all the problems you mentioned.

And yes, there is a setting to display the joint geometry in the main model:

I hope this will help you!

Hello,

I see that you are using the RFEM connection module. Out of curiosity, how long does it take to calculate the connection?

I tested the module myself, and even for a small connection, it can take up to 10 minutes to calculate, which is far too long...

Hi @Benjamin.Thomas,
This, of course, depends on the hardware you are using. The calculation is way more complex than for a rod structure, as the detailed geometry of the joints requires a fine mesh and different kind of nonlinearities are dealt with.

I recommend calculating a joint only for a few governing load combinations, at least for the designing process.

To answer your question precisely, on my computer the calculation of one joint under one load combination usually needs between 1 and 3 minutes to calculate - depending on the complexity of the geometry.

@fabian.felber Thank you.

@Benjamin.Thomas It takes about 15 seconds (not minutes) for that connection for me, I have a couple of years old i7 laptop for this software. I dedicated the laptop for RFEM software only so full processor etc is consumed by the software.

I really hope RFEM would consider develop a version for apple computers (mac etc) as I hate windows.

Hi BigBoss,

thank you for your suggestion:

I logged this under RUS ID 5026.
