Welds of type tee-joint_bevel on welded cross-section profiles

Dear community,

Would be nice a new feature to be able to verify welds of type tee-joint_bevel on some types of welded cross-section, and also add the checks of this verifications on the profile welds steel design according to EC3 (it is already possible to do this verifications for welds of type tee-joint_fillet)

For example, in the picture below, a common need for this type of welds is for welded rectangular hollow sections.

If anyone also finds this feature useful please vote it.

Best regards, João

Hi João,

Thank you for the feature request!

According to EN 1993-1-8, 4.7.1, a separate design check for full penetration butt welds is not required if the filler metal matches the base material's strength, which is the default assumption in RFEM 6.

To help us better understand your use case: Are you specifically looking for checks on partial penetration welds, where a calculation of the resistance would indeed be necessary?

Florian Heinrich

Hi @florian.heinrich

Thanks for your answer

Yes, the idea was to be able to check the option of partial penetration welds in order to optimize the needed weld size for members, with a previous defined cross-section that allow us to define the parameter of the weld size.

For example, to be able to try a bevel weld size of 3mm in a plate thickness of 10mm, and design it with the steel design add-on with an equivalent option for Design of Longitudinal Welds, as we already have for fillet welds type.

Best regards,
João
