Modeling of contacts between volumetric bodies with and without slip

Hello dear Dlubal team,

I have a question regarding the properties of surface contacts and contact volumes to which I could not find a direct answer in the manual.
I want to model the contact between a plate of a plate joint and a wooden dowel similar to Two-part wooden connection with spruce wooden dowel.
If I have a gap of 5 mm between two volume bodies and model the contact with a surface contact that fails under tension, does the force transfer only begin when this 5 mm gap is overcome by deformations?
If I alternatively fill this 5 mm gap with a contact volume with the same material properties as those of the volume bodies, does the force transfer occur immediately without first requiring 5 mm of deformation?
I would appreciate a quick, brief response!

thank you very much for your inquiry.

No, you cannot model slip this way via the coupling. The surface contact here basically behaves analogously to the contact volume. That means the contact takes effect immediately.
If you absolutely need a volume and must model slip, you can try defining rigid couplings between all the lines of your volume. Please see the following image and link.
